Reference management, bibliography management, citations and a whole lot more.

Designed by academics for academics, under continuous development since 2003, and used by both individuals and major research institutions worldwide, WIKINDX is a Virtual Research Environment (an enhanced on-line bibliography manager) storing searchable references, notes, files, citations, ideas, and more. An integrated WYSIWYG word processor exports formatted articles to RTF and HTML.

Plugins include a citation style editor and import/export of bibliographies (BibTeX, Endnote, RIS etc.). WIKINDX supports multiple attachments with each reference, multiple language localizations, and uses a template system to allow users to visually integrate WIKINDX into their sites.

WIKINDX runs on a web server giving you and your research group ownership and global access from any web-enabled device. You manage your database, you own your data.

WIKINDX can be test-driven at: https://testdrive.wikindx.com

Features

  • Import/export from other bibliographic systems
  • WYSIWYG word processor with full citation formatting options (author-date, footnotes, endnotes)—export to RTF and HTML
  • Save quotes, paraphrases, ideas etc. like index cards and search through them
  • Single or multi-user options
  • Comprehensive and flexible search (inc. full-text search on PDF and DOC attachments)
  • Integrate into a range of LMS/CMS such as Moodle, mediawiki etc.
  • Run with MySQL/PHP on any major OS (web server or standalone computer)
  • Access your bibliographies from any networked computer
  • Store unlimited numbers of files with each bibliographic entry
  • You own your bibliographies (no disasters due to centralized servers -- companies closing down etc., less risk of spam etc.)
  • And many, many more. . .

Using Dialogflow, you can provide new and engaging ways for users to interact with your product.

Dialogflow can analyze multiple types of input from your customers, including text or audio inputs (like from a phone or voice recording). It can also respond to your customers in a couple of ways, either through text or with synthetic speech. Dialogflow CX and ES provide virtual agent services for chatbots and contact centers. If you have a contact center that employs human agents, you can use Agent Assist to help your human agents. Agent Assist provides real-time suggestions for human agents while they are in conversations with end-user customers.

  • Moved away from Zotero to Wikindx on a personal RasPi server which is now accessible anywhere. Amazing feature set, 10/10 would recommend (especially since I believe true data ownership is the most crucial thing in Academia/Research). Granted, you do need minor knowledge of how web dev and databases work, which can be learnt quick or be expedited to any IT department. I was able to do it, since I work in CompSci, but this can be a deterrent to people in other fields maybe. Regardless, the setup is quite quick and easy as long as the documentation is followed to a T, especially if you're on a UNIX-based system (Linux or macOS, for example).

Thanks for the review! Just to supplement your advice regarding installation. If you wish to run your WIKINDX without accessing it on a network (or WWW), then it does help to have a little knowledge of setting up an apache, mysql, and PHP server—but there are many packages that will install and manage all of this with very little effort on your part (see the WIKINDX documentation for guides). If you do wish to be able to access your WIKINDX from a network, or share the WIKINDX with a research team, then yes, an IT department should be able to do this for you. Alternatively, do what I do and pay a few dollars a year for a domain name and external hosting—just check that the external hosting service can provide apache, mysql, and PHP that are up-to-date enough (again, see the WIKINDX documentation). • Best app for managing bibliography and creating base for scientific papers

  • After some problems with the initial installation, but with the excellent support of the team, I am very happy to have this tool running on my server. All features needed are there, now I just need to fill the database. CMS is working with wordpress and a small (unofficial) plugin. My recommendation for the installation: use SVN!

  • Knocks spots off commercial software. And I'm amazed I'm allowed to review my own software ;)
  • Best bibliographic tool out there. Tried a few others, but this is definitely the best, considering features and extensibility. Thumbs up!
