WIKINDX Requirements:
The client accesses the database via a standard (graphical) web browser. The server end of WIKINDX requires and has been developed and tested on the following free (or free for non-commercial use) software (which runs at least on Linux, Apple OSX and Windows):
- PHP >= v4.3.x (WIKINDX will not work on earlier versions)
- MySQL >= v3.23.xx (WIKINDX may or may not work on earlier versions)
- Apache >= v1.3.x (but you can use any web server able to run PHP scripts)
Windows users wanting to run WIKINDX as a single user on their desktop may be interested in the very handy WAMP5 Server for Windows. Installing and configuring Apache/PHP/MySQL on Windows can be a bit of a chore - WAMP5 is an all-in-one install for those wishing to run WIKINDX from their Windows desktop. WIKINDX uses PHP's mysql_connect() rather than mysqli_connect() so make sure you grab the appropriate download if indicated on the download site.
Some users have reported problems with some versions of WAMP5. The following versions are known to be problematic (although the problem may be related to the Windows version being used):
- WAMP5 v1.4.1
- WAMP5 v1.6.2
- WAMP5 v1.6.3
The following versions are known to work on various Windows platforms:
- WAMP5 v1.3.2
- WAMP5 v1.4.5
- WAMP5 v1.6.0
The full list of WAMP5 downloads (older and newer versions) is available at the WAMP5 Sourceforge site. There are some simple instuctions on configuring WAMP5 to work with WIKINDX here.
